Introduction

This interactive session focuses on the Procurement Theme of the FIP Basel Statements, emphasising its significance for hospital pharmacy and its impact on patient care and safety. The program begins with an introduction to the updated Basel Statements from the Brisbane Congress and their implementation guides. The first presentation provides an overview of the recent updates to the procurement Basel Statements and their importance in healthcare. The second presentation offers practical strategies for implementing these statements, with insights from real-world applications, particularly in the WHO Africa Region. Participants will then engage in two breakout workshops. The first workshop will concentrate on developing educational guides to prepare pharmacy students and hospital pharmacists for implementing the procurement-focused Basel Statements. The second workshop will develop stepwise implementation plans to assist practicing pharmacists in implementation. The session concludes with a panel discussion where experts and practitioners share their experiences, discuss challenges, highlight successful strategies in implementing the procurement Basel Statements, and answer questions from participants.

Workshop 1: Development of educational guides
Participants will engage in collaborative discussions to identify key areas of knowledge needed to educate pharmacy students and hospital pharmacists to be prepared to implement Basel Statements within the procurement theme of the Basel Statements Statements. Facilitators will guide the conversation, encouraging participants to share their perspectives and insights. The goal is to gather diverse input and consensus on core knowledge needed to develop operational excellence in procurement management.
