APWE-04 - Great Debate: How do we get to Pharmirvana? What’s the vision for positive & sustainable practice beyond 2025?

Roof Terrace room
Organised by the FIP Community Pharmacy Section

Introduction

Community pharmacists’ practice is ever evolving and improving. There are challenges as we reflect, lead and adapt to change. We have learned through research undertaken by the Community Pharmacy Section that pharmacists are positive about the profession’s future but concerned new practice models will take valuable time and energy away from our core competencies, Review, Prescribe, Dispense & Administer, as highlighted in our CPS Vision 2025. This participative session will challenge participants to identify how to expand their core competencies in a meaningful and productive way so can plan a vision for positive practice and a sustainable future for the pharmacy profession. This session will be a springboard for the CPS Vision beyond 2025. The ambition of the CPS is to consult widely around the globe and present the new Vision in Copenhagen in 2025.

Learning objectives

  • Consider the evolution of the pharmacy profession and assist in the development of a vision beyond 2025 that aligns professional satisfaction with effective healthcare, while staying engaged in the continuing professional development of the new CPS Vision.
  • Explore ways to improve healthcare and regulatory systems to enhance the value pharmacists provide to their communities.
  • Identify and prioritize core competencies to enhance your professional development and effectiveness.

Take home messages

  • Practice is evolving and we must identify our own Continuing Professional Development but also contribute to the Continuing Professional Development of community pharmacists.
  • New roles must be considered in the context of current workloads and the needs and dynamics of the different healthcare and regulatory systems.
  • Delegates opinions matter and will be reflected in future research.
  • Pharmacists are and should be the best advocates for more positive, effective, efficient, satisfying and sustainable practice.
