08:05 – 08:25 | MOMO-0301 – Substandard and falsified medicines in Lebanon: the role of the Order of Pharmacists of Lebanon Dr Luna El Bizri Substandard and falsified medicines pose a substantial threat to public health and quality of life, particularly in low- and middle-income countries where they constitute approximately 10.5% of medicine samples and account for an estimated USD 30.5 billion in expenditures. The issue is exacerbated in conflict and crisis regions due to inadequate law enforcement and funding shortages, which compromise access to quality, safe, and effective medical products. This session will address the challenges and propose multifaceted strategies to combat the proliferation of these harmful products, particularly focusing on Lebanon amid its complex crisis. Strategies discussed will include enhancing public awareness, strengthening regulatory and law enforcement frameworks, and improving supply chain traceability and visibility to ensure the availability of legitimate, high-quality medicines. |
